Charles. H. Houston to John Wanzer: March 13, 1940

                                        13 March 1940

Mr. John Wanzer,
Middleburg,
Virginia.

Dear Mr. Wanzer:

By way of a follow-up for the Board of Education hearing Tuesday, March 12, I think the County-Wide League should stage a series of Sunday meetings at different places in the county between now and the meeting of the Board of Supervisors to keep interest aroused, and to link the struggle for equal education with the civic duty of paying poll taxes and voting. To this end I am offering the services of Mr. Waddy to speak Easter Sunday, March 24, provided that the meeting be arranged in some place other than Middleburg. All Mr. Waddy needs would be his transportation, and some one to provide his meals while in the County on Easter Sunday. Mr. Waddy has worked with me on the equalization program, and is himself a native of Louisa County. He makes a fine speech, and it will do the people good to hear him.

I will try to arrange to come back myself one Sunday before the Board of Supervisors meets. I would like for my meeting to be held in one of the smaller villages, under the principle that instead of making the people come to us we should take the message to the people.

Will you please advise us as soon as possible about the Easter meeting. If you want to hold it in Leesburg, O.K.

I am expecting you to make the county hum between now and the meeting of the Board of Supervisors.

                                        Yours sincerely,

                                        Charles H. Houston
