A YOUNG WHITE MAN, hailing from an adjoining county, was arrested
on Saturday last, charged with stealing a pistol from a Negro, and carried
before Justice M.M. Rogers, at Dover. The Justice heard the case, found the
prisoner guilty, and sentenced him to 30 stripes, which were duly administered
by the officer charged with that duty. This is, we believe, the first instance,
in a long while, in which a white man has been subjected to the lash in this
county, and it should serve as a warning to others similarly disposed, as
the Justices of Loudoun seem determined to act upon the suggestion of the
last legislature for reducing the criminal expenses of the Commonwealth—without
fear, favor or affection.
