MIXED SCHOOLS IN WASHINGTON.—The
new public school board of Washington city, organized Monday night. A resolution
to revise the school rules and discipline, was referred to a committee of there
colored and two white trustees. George W. Dyer, a white member, announced boldly
that he was in favor of mixed schools, and no dissent was expressed from his
views. The colored members favored the same thing, if the law will carry them
out. An effort will be made by the late board to restrain the new board from
proceeding further upon the ground that they have not right to break up the
public school system.
